The celebration witnessed the exhibition of positive culture in its most beautiful and adoring form and the denouncing of negative tradition in its harmful and degradation dimension to humanity. Songs with didactic implications were created by the women to educate the people about the effects of harmful traditional practices on women. This activity brought together communities, family members, women’s rights organisations, government bodies, the diplomatic corps; international and continental bodies, religious scholars, youths/children, students and other observer communities to witness such a land mark activity.
Cultural procession by Cluster Villages
Seven Districts, represented by clusters villages and observer communities took part in the activity, and made a historic procession led by the Police Band and other Cultural groups to the venue in the presence of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare and other dignitaries. This was meant to show the participating District with their Alkalolus and Representatives of District Chiefs with their banners for identification.
Procession by Ex - Circumciser
These are the people that matter; they are the Sheroines that made the decision to protect the girl child. The entire celebration was done in their honour. As they made a procession to the ground, each of the circumciser led a girl child who held beautifully carved Insignias inscribed in them ‘I HAVE STOPPED FGM’ as they marched to the venue. |
